Last July, a new fastcraft was launched by 2Go Travel which is the Supercat M/V St. Camael that ferries passengers to and from Ormoc and Cebu. It’s a brand-new vessel and is Australian-designed but proudly made 100% in the Philippines by Filipino engineers. This was according to Angelito Salvio, the SuperCat general manager. So we had the chance (finally!) to go to Cebu last August to celebrate NoodleLito’s birthday and had our mini vacation and a much needed break. We took a VLOG which is up on YouTube and embedded at the end of this blog post.
Anyway, the new fastcraft, M/V St. Camael, is a thing of beauty. It can take 300 passengers running on 24 knots (could be more if they wanted and depending on the amount of passengers) but to comply with marina rules, they must maintain the speed and also slow down once they reach the Mactan channel, or else the captain gets fined and sanctioned. Listen to him explain about it in our Supercat M/V St. Camael video.
Trips to and from Ormoc City and Cebu City take around 3 hours of travel time, but nonetheless never boring as you get to be entertained with movies shown on super clear high-definition Sony Bravia TVs inside the Supercat. During our trip they showed kid-friendly, family movies and NoodleLito was so engrossed, he was crying towards the end of it! Too funny! I included a clip in our VLOG.
But first things first, upon entering the fastcraft I noticed that it smelled great. It’s like stepping into a plane or even better, a world-class hotel. It absolutely does not reek of engine oil or fuel as the old fastcrafts did.
The seats are super clean and comfortable. Even better, you should try their business class on the upper deck which only seats about 32 passengers.
They also have open-air seating, for those who get seasick (I think). Or maybe if you just enjoy the sea breeze or salt in your hair (hey, whatever floats your boat, right?) then you can stay here and for a cheaper fare, too.
We also had a chance to visit Capt. Wenceslao at the bridge deck or pilot house (or whatever it’s called) and it was marvelous and state-of-the-art! So many buttons and knobs… I wanted to press them all! HAHA! You should watch our video so you can see for yourself.
There are 6 trips back and forth Ormoc and Cebu so it is possible for anyone to just go to Ormoc from Cebu (vis-a-vis) for a change of scenery or if you just want to take a break and visit friends and family. So I highly recommend you take the Supercat M/V St. Camael when you do.
